The Sober Club is an invaluable community that helped me in the early days of my sobriety. When you first stop drinking alcohol, the world around you can feel very fagile and days can seem to go on forever. At this time you need people to talk to about what you are trying to do, your goals, your mistakes, your weaknesses and your dreams. The Sober Club can be your first step to really talking about what you want to achieve from sobriety and you can chat to members who have been sober for years, sometimes months, even days and some members who are raw and fresh like you.
I believe a community like this is essential as you take your first baby steps into sobriety. Family and friends may not even understand your decisions, and sometimes can be no help at all. Of course this is not always the case and if you can find community with those closest to you, that is equally great and beneficial. However, even with this I believe Janey Lee Grace's The Sober Club should be one of your first port of calls and will add an extra layer to the process you have decided to undertake.
In addition to joining The Sober Club, you should take on board The Alcohol Free Life podcast which is available wherever you get your podcasts and is another excellent tool that can help you. So many guests, so much info, and such great advice. It helped me considerably in the very raw days and led me to joining the club. I have also been a guest on the podcast, talking about sobriety in Paris and alcohol-free options and (shameless plug incoming), our pub in Paris, The Pub.
